The city has a total area of 14.43 sq mi (37.37 square kilometre), of which, 14.06 square miles (36.42 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.37 square miles (0.96 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 36th largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.
