As of July 2008, the estimated population was 28773, It is the 58th largest by population in the U.S. state of Illinois. The city has a total area of 14.43 sq mi (37.37 square kilometre), of which, 14.06 square miles (36.42 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.37 square miles (0.96 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 36th largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.
