East Baton Rouge Parish is a United States parish located in the United States of Louisiana. As of 2000 the population was 412852. The July 2008 population estimate is 428360, It is the second largest in terms of population. Its area is just over 470.54 sq mi (1218.69 square kilometre), of which, 455.43 square miles (1179.56 square kilometre) of it is land and 15.11 square miles (39.13 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 15th smallest by size in Louisiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 412852 people in the parish, organized into 156365 households, and 102581 families living in the parish. The population density was 906.5 people per square mile (350/kmē), it is the third most populated parish in terms of population density. There were 169073 housing units at an average density of 371.2 per square mile (143.32/kmē). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.14. In the parish the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 14.4% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.5 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the parish is 428360, The racial makeup of the parish was 221804 White, 190422 Black or African American, 1194 American Indian, 10566 Asian, 192 Native Hawaiian, and 4182 from two or more races.
