Duval County is one of the 254 county of Texas, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 13120 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 12033, It is 155th most populous county in Texas. The county has a total area of 1795.67 mi˛ (4650.76 sq km), of which, 1792.71 square miles (4643.1 sq km) of it is land and 2.97 square miles (7.69 sq km) of it is water, making it the 14th largest by size in Texas.

The population density was 7.3 people per square mile (2.82/km˛), giving it the 68th least densely populated county among the Texas. The population's age distribution was 29.5% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 14% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.9 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 12033, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.64% White, 0.96% Black or African American, 0.8% American Indian, 0.18% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 0.37% from two or more races.
