Duval County is a county in the United States of Florida. In 2000, the population was 778879. The July 2008 population estimate is 850962, making it Florida's seventh largest county. The county has a total area of 918.24 square miles (2378.23 square kilometre), of which, 773.67 square miles (2003.8 square kilometre) of it is land and 144.57 square miles (374.43 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 27th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 778879 people in the county, organized into 303747 households, and 201678 families living in the county. The population density was 1006.7 people per square mile (388.69/kmē), making its Florida's fifth most densely populated county. There were 329778 housing units at an average density of 426.3 per square mile (164.6/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.51 persons, and the average family size was 3.06 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 26.3% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 850962, The racial makeup of the county was 547713 White, 253915 Black or African American, 3794 American Indian, 29421 Asian, 792 Native Hawaiian, and 15327 from two or more races.
