Dutchess County is a United States county located in the United States of New York. The population of the county was 280150 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 292878, It is New York's 15th most populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 825.38 mi˛ (2137.72 square kilometre ), of which, 801.59 square miles (2076.11 square kilometre) of it is land and 23.78 square miles (61.59 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 30th largest by total area among New York's county.

The population density was 349.5 people per square mile (134.94/km˛), it is 18th most densely populated county in New York. In the Dutchess County, 25.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 9.4% were 18 to 24, 30.2% were 25 to 44, 23.2% were 45 to 64, and 12% who were 65 or older.
