Durango City is a city located in the La Plata County, Colorado, United States. It is home to over 13922 people (2000 census). It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 16416, It is the 39th largest in terms of population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.81 mi˛ (17.64 sq km), of which, 6.78 square miles (17.56 sq km) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 sq km) of it is water, it is the 69th largest by area in the U.S. state of Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 13922 people, 5492 households, and 2604 families residing in the city. The population density was 2052.4 people per square mile (792.44/km˛), making it the 72nd most densely populated city in Colorado.
