Dunkirk City is a United States city located in the Chautauqua County, New York, United States. Dunkirk City had an official population of 13131 in 2000. Its population was estimated at 12085 in July 2008, giving it the 147th largest population among New York. The city comprises an area of 4.57 square miles (11.84 sq km), of which, 4.53 square miles (11.73 sq km) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 sq km) of it is water, it is the 234th largest by area in the U.S. state of New York.

As of the census of 2000, there were 13131 residents, 5477 households, and 3338 families in the city.
