Dukes County is a one of the county from Massachusetts's 14 counties, located in Northeastern Region (New England) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 14987 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 15527, It is second least populous county in Massachusetts. The county extends throughout a territory of 490.95 miē (1271.55 kmē ), of which, 103.78 square miles (268.79 kmē) of it is land and 387.18 square miles (1002.79 kmē) of it is water, it is the fourth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It is ranks third in the size of its inland waterways in Massachusetts.

As of the census of 2000, there were 14987 people in the county, organized into 6421 households, and 3791 families residing in the county. The population density was 144.4 people per square mile (55.75/kmē), it is the second least populated county in terms of population density. There were 14836 housing units at an average density of 143 per square mile (55.21/kmē). The average household size was 2.3 and the average family size was 2.91. Age range in the county was well distributed with 22.7% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 29.6% from 25 to 44, 27.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 15527, The racial makeup of the county was 92.19% White, 2.74% Black or African American, 2.29% American Indian, 0.78% Asian, 0.11% Native Hawaiian, and 1.88% from two or more races.
