Duchesne County is one of the 29 county of Utah, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 14371 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 16861, It is the 16th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Utah. The county has a total area of 3255.97 miē (8432.92 kmē), of which, 3238.05 square miles (8386.51 kmē) of it is land and 17.92 square miles (46.41 kmē) of it is water, making it Utah's 12th largest county by total area.

The population density was 4.4 people per square mile (1.7/kmē), it is the 17th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Utah. There were 6988 housing units at an average density of 2.2 per square mile (0.85/kmē). The average household size was 3.11 persons, and the average family size was 3.51 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 36.8% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 102.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 16861, The racial makeup of the county was 91.83% White, 0.26% Black or African American, 5.37% American Indian, 0.25% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 2.24% from two or more races.
