The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 17509, It is the 47th most populous in the U.S. state of Georgia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.27 miē (34.37 kmē), of which, 13.21 square miles (34.21 kmē) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 kmē) of it is water, making it the 54th largest by size in Georgia.
