Downingtown Borough is a borough located in Chester County, Pennsylvania, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. The population of the borough was 7589 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 7937, It is 167th most populous in Pennsylvania. Its area is just over 2.19 square miles (5.67 square kilometre), makes it the 328th largest by total area in Pennsylvania.

In the borough the population was distributed as follows: 25.3% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.4 males. The median age is 35.1 years, the median age of male residents at 34 and the median age of female residents at 36. The racial makeup of the borough was 6348 White, 819 Black or African American, 9 American Indian, 174 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, 127 from two or more races and 109 Ohter races.
