Douglas County is a United States county located in the United States of Missouri. The population of the county was 13084 as per the 2000 census data. Its population was estimated at 13438 in July 2008, It is the 76th largest in terms of population. The county encompasses an area of 814.6 square miles (2109.8 square kilometre ), of which, 814.53 square miles (2109.62 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 11th largest by size in Missouri.

The population density was 16.1 people per square mile (6.22/kmē), it would be the 24th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Missouri. There were 5919 housing units at an average density of 7.3 per square mile (2.82/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 2.99 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 25.8% under the age of 18, 7% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 13438, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.59% White, 0.25% Black or African American, 0.99% American Indian, 0.22% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.93% from two or more races.
