Douglas County is a county located in the United States of Kansas. As of 2000 the population was 99962. Its population was estimated at 114748 in July 2008, It is the fifth largest county by population in the U.S. state of Kansas. It is spread over 474.47 sq mi (1228.87 kmē), of which, 456.87 square miles (1183.29 kmē ) of it is land and 17.6 square miles (45.58 kmē) of it is water, making it Kansas's sixth smallest county by total area. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in Kansas.

The population density was 218.8 people per square mile (84.48/kmē), making it the fifth most densely populated county in Kansas. There were 40250 housing units at an average density of 88.1 per square mile (34.02/kmē). The average household size was 2.37 people, and the average family size was 2.97 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 20.4% under the age of 18, 26.4% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 16.9% from 45 to 64, and 7.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.7 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 114748, The racial makeup of the county was 86.96% White, 4.3% Black or African American, 2.41% American Indian, 3.83% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, and 2.43% from two or more races.
