Douglas County is one of the 102 county of Illinois, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 19922. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 19448, It is the 59th largest in terms of population. Its area is just over 417.42 sq mi (1081.11 sq km), of which, 416.86 square miles (1079.66 sq km) of it is land and 0.56 square miles (1.45 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 31st smallest by total area among Illinois's county.

In the county Age distribution was 27% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 16% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 105.9 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 108.7 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 19448, The racial makeup of the county was 97.69% White, 0.79% Black or African American, 0.27% American Indian, 0.6% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.63% from two or more races.
