Dorchester County, South Carolina is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 96413 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 127133, making it the 13th most populous county in South Carolina. Its area is just over 576.69 sq mi (1493.62 sq km), of which, 574.73 square miles (1488.54 sq km) of it is land and 1.96 square miles (5.08 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 27th largest by total area among South Carolina's county.

As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 127133, The racial makeup of the county was 90037 White, 32343 Black or African American, 828 American Indian, 1934 Asian, 122 Native Hawaiian, and 1869 from two or more races.
