Door County is a county located in Wisconsin, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 27961 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 27771, It is 45th most populous county in Wisconsin. It is spread over 2369.83 sq mi (6137.83 square kilometre), of which, 482.72 square miles (1250.24 square kilometre ) of it is land and 1887.11 square miles (4887.59 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the largest by area in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in Wisconsin.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 27961 people, 11828 households, and 7997 families residing in the county. The population density was 57.9 people per square mile (22.36/kmē), giving it the 30th most densely populated county among the Wisconsin. There were 19587 housing units at an average density of 40.6 per square mile (15.68/kmē). The average household size was 2.33 persons, and the average family size was 2.84 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.1% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.5 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 27771, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 27121 White, 116 Black or African American, 205 American Indian, 127 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 199 from two or more races.
