Doniphan County is a United States county located in the United States of Kansas. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 8249 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 7753, It is the 49th most populous county in the U.S. state of Kansas. The county extends throughout a territory of 397.07 sq mi (1028.41 kmē ), of which, 392.18 square miles (1015.74 kmē) of it is land and 4.89 square miles (12.67 kmē) of it is water, making it the second smallest by size in Kansas.

The population density was 21 people per square mile (8.11/kmē), it is the 36th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Kansas. There were 3489 housing units at an average density of 8.9 per square mile (3.44/kmē). The average household size was 2.48 persons, and the average family size was 3.03 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.3% under the age of 18, 11.8% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 22% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.2 males. Its population was estimated at 7753 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 94.29% White, 2.62% Black or African American, 1.46% American Indian, 0.3% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 1.34% from two or more races.
