Dolores County is a one of the county from Colorado's 63 counties, located in Western Region (Mountain) of United States. The population of the county was 1844 as per the 2000 census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 1986, It is the sixth least populous county in the U.S. state of Colorado. The county extends throughout a territory of 1068.09 sq mi (2766.34 kmē ), of which, 1066.97 square miles (2763.44 kmē) of it is land and 1.13 square miles (2.93 kmē) of it is water, it is the 42nd largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1844 people in the county, organized into 785 households, and 542 families residing in the county. The population density was 1.7 people per square mile (0.66/kmē), making its Colorado's seventh least densely populated county. There were 1193 housing units at an average density of 1.1 per square mile (0.42/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 persons, and the average family size was 2.82 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 21.9% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 27.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 107.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.5 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 1986, The racial makeup of the county was 95.52% White, 0.05% Black or African American, 2.72% American Indian, 0.4% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, and 1.26% from two or more races.
