Dixie County is one of the 67 county of Florida, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Dixie County is home to 13827 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 14957, It is Florida's eighth least populous county. The county has a total area of 863.66 square miles (2236.87 sq km), of which, 704.01 square miles (1823.38 sq km) of it is land and 159.65 square miles (413.49 sq km) of it is water, making it the 32nd largest by size in Florida.

The population density was 19.6 people per square mile (7.57/kmē), it is fifth least densely populated county in Florida. There were 7362 housing units at an average density of 10.5 per square mile (4.05/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.44 persons, and the average family size was 2.87 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.1% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 87.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 85.3 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 14957, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 13270 White, 1418 Black or African American, 70 American Indian, 34 Asian, 5 Native Hawaiian, and 160 from two or more races.
