Dimmit County is one of the 254 county of Texas, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 10248 as per the Census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 9758, It is the 166th largest in terms of population. The county comprises an area of 1334.48 square miles (3456.29 sq km), of which, 1330.91 square miles (3447.04 sq km) of it is land and 3.57 square miles (9.25 sq km) of it is water, it is the 31st largest in terms of geographical size.

In the county the population was distributed as follows: 33.2% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.1 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 9758, The racial makeup of the county was 96.35% White, 1.44% Black or African American, 0.82% American Indian, 0.9% Asian, 0.07% Native Hawaiian, and 0.41% from two or more races.
