Dickenson County, Virginia is a county of the United States of Virginia. In 2000, the population was 16395. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 16405, making it the 89th most populous county in Virginia. The county extends throughout a territory of 333.63 square miles (864.1 sq km ), of which, 331.71 square miles (859.12 sq km) of it is land and 1.91 square miles (4.95 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 63rd largest by total area in Virginia.

The population density was 49.4 people per square mile (19.07/kmē), it would be the 34th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Virginia. In the county Age distribution was 22.1% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 106.8 females. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 16405, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.96% White, 1.37% Black or African American, 0.12% American Indian, 0.08% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.47% from two or more races.
