Devils Lake City is one of the city of Ramsey County, North Dakota, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, city's population was 7222 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 6708, It is the 12th largest by population in the U.S. state of North Dakota. The city spans an area of 6.29 square miles (16.29 kmē), of which, 6.28 square miles (16.27 kmē) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 kmē) of it is water, it is the 19th largest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 7222 people, 3127 households, and 1772 families residing in the city. The population density was 1149.4 people per square mile (443.79/kmē), giving it the 65th most densely populated city among the North Dakota. There were 3508 housing units at an average density of 558.6 per square mile (215.68/kmē). The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.87. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 24% under the age of 18, 10% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85 males. The median age of the city's population was 38.3 years, The median age of males was 36.1 years, for females the median age was 40.5 years. The racial makeup of the city was 6444 White, 16 Black or African American, 566 American Indian, 20 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 161 from two or more races and 15 Ohter races.
