Desha County is one of the 75 county of Arkansas, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Desha County is home to 15341 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 13538 in July 2008, It is 22nd least populous county in Arkansas. The county extends throughout a territory of 819.52 square miles (2122.55 sq km ), of which, 764.99 square miles (1981.32 sq km) of it is land and 54.53 square miles (141.23 sq km) of it is water, it is the 17th largest by area in the U.S. state of Arkansas. It is ranks second in the size of its inland waterways in Arkansas.

The population density was 20.1 people per square mile (7.76/kmē), making it the 19th least densely populated county in Arkansas. In the county Age distribution was 28.9% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 114.2 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 120.7 females. Its population was estimated at 13538 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 50.41% White, 47.84% Black or African American, 0.41% American Indian, 0.44% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.86% from two or more races.
