Denton County is a United States county located in the United States of Texas. The population of county in 2000 stood at 432976 as per the Census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 636557, making it Texas's ninth largest county. The county has a total area of 957.88 mi˛ (2480.9 sq km), of which, 888.54 square miles (2301.31 sq km) of it is land and 69.34 square miles (179.59 sq km) of it is water, it is the 96th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 432976 people in the county, organized into 158903 households, and 111324 families residing in the county. The population density was 487.3 people per square mile (188.15/km˛), it is the ninth most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Texas. There were 168069 housing units at an average density of 189.2 per square mile (73.05/km˛). The average household size was 2.67 people, and the average family size was 3.18 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 27.7% under the age of 18, 11.3% from 18 to 24, 37% from 25 to 44, 19% from 45 to 64, and 5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.6 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 636557, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 532601 White, 51868 Black or African American, 4914 American Indian, 35789 Asian, 486 Native Hawaiian, and 10899 from two or more races.
