Delta County is a one of the county from Texas's 254 counties, located in Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 5327. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 5458, It is the 58th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Texas. The county encompasses an area of 277.92 mi˛ (719.81 square kilometre ), of which, 277.08 square miles (717.63 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.84 square miles (2.18 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the seventh smallest by area in the U.S. state of Texas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5327 residents, 2094 households, and 1462 families in the county. The population density was 19.2 people per square mile (7.41/km˛), it would be the 135th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Texas. There were 2410 housing units at an average density of 8.7 per square mile (3.36/km˛). The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.02. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.6% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 5458, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 89.63% White, 7.57% Black or African American, 0.97% American Indian, 0.15% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.65% from two or more races.
