Delaware County, Pennsylvania is a county located in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 550864 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 553619, It is fifth most populous county in Pennsylvania. The county spans an area of 190.74 sq mi (494.01 square kilometre), of which, 184.21 square miles (477.1 square kilometre) of it is land and 6.53 square miles (16.91 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the third smallest by area in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania.

The population density was 2990.4 people per square mile (1154.6/kmē), it is second most densely populated county in Pennsylvania. There were 216978 housing units at an average density of 1177.9 per square mile (454.79/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.56 persons, and the average family size was 3.17 persons. The population's age distribution was 24.8% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.9 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 553619, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 75.4% White, 18.76% Black or African American, 0.15% American Indian, 4.48% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.19% from two or more races.
