Delaware County is a United States county located in the United States of Oklahoma. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 37077 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 40425 in July 2008, making it the 23rd most populous county in Oklahoma. It is spread over 792.33 sq mi (2052.13 square kilometre), of which, 740.65 square miles (1918.27 square kilometre ) of it is land and 51.68 square miles (133.85 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 43rd largest by size in Oklahoma. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Oklahoma.

As of the census of 2000, there were 37077 people in the county, organized into 14838 households, and 10767 families residing in the county. The population density was 50.1 people per square mile (19.34/kmē), it is the 21st most populated county in terms of population density. There were 22290 housing units at an average density of 30.1 per square mile (11.62/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 2.89 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24.5% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.8 males. Its population was estimated at 40425 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 71.12% White, 0.47% Black or African American, 21.19% American Indian, 0.86% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 6.33% from two or more races.
