Delaware County, New York is a county of the United States of New York. Delaware County had an official population of 48055 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 46085, making it New York's tenth smallest county. The county encompasses an area of 1468.04 mi˛ (3802.21 sq km ), of which, 1446.37 square miles (3746.08 sq km) of it is land and 21.67 square miles (56.13 sq km) of it is water, makes it the eighth largest by total area in New York.

The population density was 33.2 people per square mile (12.82/km˛), giving it the fifth least densely populated county among the New York. There were 28952 housing units at an average density of 20 per square mile (7.72/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.39 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. In the county Age distribution was 23.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 24% from 25 to 44, 26.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 103.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 106.6 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 46085, The racial makeup of the county was 96.04% White, 1.7% Black or African American, 0.39% American Indian, 0.8% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.05% from two or more races.
