Delaware County is a one of the county from Iowa's 99 counties, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 18404 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 17301 in July 2008, It is 42nd most populous county in Iowa. The county extends throughout a territory of 579.05 square miles (1499.73 kmē ), of which, 577.85 square miles (1496.62 kmē) of it is land and 1.19 square miles (3.08 kmē) of it is water, it is the 36th largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.

The population density was 31.8 people per square mile (12.28/kmē), it is 40th most densely populated county in Iowa. There were 7682 housing units at an average density of 13.3 per square mile (5.14/kmē). The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.15. In the Delaware County, 29% of the population was under the age of 18, 7% were 18 to 24, 27.6% were 25 to 44, 21.5% were 45 to 64, and 15% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.6 males.
