Delaware City City is one of the city of New Castle County, Delaware, located towards the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. The population of the city was 1453 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 1517, It is the 38th most populous in the U.S. state of Delaware. The city extends throughout a territory of 1.33 mi˛ (3.44 square kilometre ), of which, 1.26 square miles (3.26 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 35th largest by total area among Delaware. It is ranks 11 in the size of its inland waterways in Delaware.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 1453 people, 567 households, and 396 families living in the city. The population density was 1156.3 people per square mile (446.45/km˛), it is 47th most densely populated city in Delaware. There were 616 housing units at an average density of 488.9 per square mile (188.77/km˛). The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.03. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 12% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.4 males. The median age is 38.3 years, the median age of male residents at 36.1 and the median age of female residents at 40.7. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 87.47% White, 10.32% Black or African American, 0.41% American Indian, 0.21% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 0.89% from two or more races and 0.69% Other races.
