Dekalb County is a county in the United States of Tennessee. In 2000, county's population was 17423 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 18694, It is Tennessee's 28th least populous county. The county comprises an area of 328.98 square miles (852.05 sq km), of which, 304.57 square miles (788.83 sq km) of it is land and 24.41 square miles (63.22 sq km) of it is water, it is the 26th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Tennessee.

The population density was 57.2 people per square mile (22.09/kmē), making it the 55th most densely populated county in Tennessee. There were 8409 housing units at an average density of 27.6 per square mile (10.66/kmē). The average household size was 2.45 people, and the average family size was 2.9 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 23.3% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 18694, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 96.68% White, 1.63% Black or African American, 0.3% American Indian, 0.44% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 0.93% from two or more races.
