Dekalb County, Missouri is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 11597. The July 2008 population estimate is 12275, It is the 35th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county comprises an area of 425.77 square miles (1102.74 kmē), of which, 424.2 square miles (1098.67 kmē) of it is land and 1.57 square miles (4.07 kmē) of it is water, it is the tenth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri.

The population density was 27.3 people per square mile (10.54/kmē), it is the 65th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Missouri. In the county the population was spread out, with 20.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 36.3% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 65.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 59.5 females. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 12275, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 87.07% White, 10.52% Black or African American, 0.77% American Indian, 0.5% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 1.13% from two or more races.
