The July 2008 population estimate is 12275, It is the 35th smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Missouri. The county comprises an area of 425.77 square miles (1102.74 kmē), of which, 424.2 square miles (1098.67 kmē) of it is land and 1.57 square miles (4.07 kmē) of it is water, it is the tenth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri.
