Dekalb County is a county located in Georgia, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 665865. In July 2008, its estimated population was 739956, It is Georgia's third most populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 270.91 sq mi (701.65 kmē ), of which, 268.21 square miles (694.66 kmē) of it is land and 2.7 square miles (6.99 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 47th smallest by total area among Georgia's county.

The population density was 2482.7 people per square mile (958.58/kmē), making its Georgia's most densely populated county. There were 261231 housing units at an average density of 974 per square mile (376.06/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.62 persons, and the average family size was 3.2 persons. In the county Population was distributed with 24.6% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 36.7% from 25 to 44, 19.7% from 45 to 64, and 8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 739956, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 297733 White, 397347 Black or African American, 2939 American Indian, 30935 Asian, 721 Native Hawaiian, and 10281 from two or more races.
