Decatur County is a one of the county from Iowa's 99 counties, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Decatur County is home to 8689 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 8409, It is the 14th smallest in terms of population. The county spans an area of 533.32 mi˛ (1381.29 square kilometre), of which, 531.8 square miles (1377.36 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.52 square miles (3.94 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 66th largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.

For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 8409, The racial makeup of the county was 96.27% White, 1.18% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 0.83% Asian, 0.12% Native Hawaiian, and 1.32% from two or more races.
