Decatur County is a county located in Indiana, in the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. Decatur County had an official population of 24555 in 2000. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 24998, It is Indiana's 62nd most populous county. The county extends throughout a territory of 373.42 miē (967.15 kmē ), of which, 372.6 square miles (965.03 kmē) of it is land and 0.81 square miles (2.1 kmē) of it is water, making it the 29th smallest by size in Indiana.

In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 26.3% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.4 males.
