Decatur City is a city located in Morgan and Limestone counties, Alabama, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 53929. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 56068, making it Alabama's eighth largest. The city spans an area of 59.9 sq mi (155.14 square kilometre), of which, 53.41 square miles (138.33 square kilometre) of it is land and 6.49 square miles (16.81 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the tenth largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Alabama.

The population density was 1009.7 people per square mile (389.85/kmē), it is Alabama's 52nd most densely populated city. The median age was 36.3 years, the median age of male residents at 35 and the median age of female residents at 37.7. The racial makeup of the city was 40714 White, 10548 Black or African American, 312 American Indian, 376 Asian, 68 Native Hawaiian, 716 from two or more races and 1195 Ohter races.
