De Baca County, New Mexico


De Baca County is a county located in New Mexico, in the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 2240 as per the Census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 1907, It is the second smallest in terms of population. The county encompasses an area of 2333.83 square miles (6044.59 sq km ), of which, 2324.87 square miles (6021.39 sq km) of it is land and 8.96 square miles (23.21 sq km) of it is water, it is the ninth smallest by area in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is ranks seventh in the size of its inland waterways in New Mexico.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2240 people in the county, organized into 922 households, and 615 families living in the county. The population density was 1 people per square mile (0.39/kmē), it is New Mexico's third least densely populated county. There were 1307 housing units at an average density of 0.6 per square mile (0.23/kmē). The average household size was 2.35 people, and the average family size was 2.96 people. In the De Baca County, 24.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 5.7% were 18 to 24, 21.7% were 25 to 44, 23.2% were 45 to 64, and 25.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1907, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 97.27% White, 0.26% Black or African American, 1.15% American Indian, 0.16% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 1.15% from two or more races.
