Davison County is one of the 66 county of South Dakota, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 18741 as per the Census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 18931, making it the tenth most populous county in South Dakota. It has total area of 436.78 mi˛ (1131.26 square kilometre), of which, 435.44 square miles (1127.78 square kilometre) of it is land and 1.34 square miles (3.47 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the fourth smallest by size in South Dakota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 18741 residents, 7585 households, and 4773 families in the county. The population density was 43 people per square mile (16.6/km˛), giving it the second most densely populated county among the South Dakota. There were 8093 housing units at an average density of 18.6 per square mile (7.18/km˛). The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.4% under the age of 18, 12% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.8 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 18931, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 95.44% White, 0.53% Black or African American, 2.69% American Indian, 0.4% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.91% from two or more races.
