As of July 2008, the estimated population was 10305, It is North Carolina's 91st largest by population . It covers total area of 5.06 square miles (13.11 sq km), of which, 4.86 square miles (12.59 sq km) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 178th largest by total area among North Carolina.
