Darlington County, South Carolina is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. In 2000, the population was 67394. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 67031, It is South Carolina's 21st most populous county. Its area is just over 566.78 sq mi (1467.95 kmē), of which, 561.14 square miles (1453.35 kmē) of it is land and 5.63 square miles (14.58 kmē) of it is water, giving it the 28th largest by total area among South Carolina's county.

In the county the population was spread out, with 26.3% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 89.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.6 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 67031, The racial makeup of the county was 56.82% White, 42.07% Black or African American, 0.25% American Indian, 0.28% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.56% from two or more races.
