Darke County is a one of the county from Ohio's 88 counties, located in Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 53309 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 52027, It is the 48th largest in terms of population. It covers total area of 600.29 square miles (1554.74 square kilometre), of which, 599.8 square miles (1553.47 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.49 square miles (1.27 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Ohio's 13th largest county by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 53309 people, 20419 households, and 14898 families living in the county. The population density was 88.9 people per square mile (34.32/kmē), it is 28th least densely populated county in Ohio. There were 21583 housing units at an average density of 36 per square mile (13.9/kmē). The average household size was 2.56 people, and the average family size was 3.03 people. In the county Population was distributed with 26.3% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 52027, The racial makeup of the county was 50955 White, 323 Black or African American, 97 American Indian, 198 Asian, 12 Native Hawaiian, and 442 from two or more races.
