Dare County is a United States county located in the United States of North Carolina. The population of county in 2000 stood at 29967 as per the Census data. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 33584, It is the 67th most populous county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The county encompasses an area of 1561.51 square miles (4044.29 square kilometre ), of which, 383.58 square miles (993.47 square kilometre) of it is land and 1177.93 square miles (3050.82 square kilometre) of it is water, making it North Carolina's largest county by total area. It is ranks first in the size of its inland waterways in North Carolina.

The population density was 78.1 people per square mile (30.15/kmē), it is 61st most densely populated county in North Carolina. There were 26671 housing units at an average density of 69.5 per square mile (26.83/kmē). The average household size was 2.34 people, and the average family size was 2.79 people. In the county Age distribution was 21.4% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 98.5 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 99.8 females. Its population was estimated at 33584 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 31808 White, 1108 Black or African American, 105 American Indian, 184 Asian, 16 Native Hawaiian, and 363 from two or more races.
