Dane County, Wisconsin is a county of the United States of Wisconsin. Dane County had an official population of 426526 in 2000. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 482705, giving it the second largest population among Wisconsin's county. It covers total area of 1238.32 square miles (3207.23 square kilometre), of which, 1201.89 square miles (3112.88 square kilometre) of it is land and 36.42 square miles (94.33 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the 11th largest by total area in Wisconsin.

The population density was 354.9 people per square mile (137.03/kmē), it is the seventh most populated county in terms of population density. There were 180398 housing units at an average density of 150.1 per square mile (57.95/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.37 persons, and the average family size was 2.97 persons. In the Dane County, 22.6% of the population was under the age of 18, 14.3% were 18 to 24, 32.5% were 25 to 44, 21.3% were 45 to 64, and 9.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 482705, The racial makeup of the county was 428455 White, 21494 Black or African American, 2266 American Indian, 22183 Asian, 191 Native Hawaiian, and 8116 from two or more races.
