Dallas County is a county located in Alabama, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 46365 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 42867, It is the 29th most populous county in the U.S. state of Alabama. The county extends throughout a territory of 993.37 square miles (2572.82 sq km ), of which, 980.71 square miles (2540.03 sq km) of it is land and 12.66 square miles (32.79 sq km) of it is water, it is the tenth largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama.

As of the census of 2000, there were 46365 residents, 17841 households, and 12494 families in the county. The population density was 47.3 people per square mile (18.26/kmē), it is the 34th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Alabama. There were 20450 housing units at an average density of 20.9 per square mile (8.07/kmē). The average household size was 2.57 persons, and the average family size was 3.15 persons. In the county Age distribution was 28.6% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 83.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.8 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 42867, The racial makeup of the county was 31.35% White, 67.53% Black or African American, 0.14% American Indian, 0.38% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.59% from two or more races.
