Dakota County is a United States county located in the United States of Nebraska. The population of the county was 20253 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 20174, making it the 15th most populous county in Nebraska. It has total area of 267.39 mi˛ (692.54 sq km), of which, 263.8 square miles (683.24 sq km) of it is land and 3.6 square miles (9.32 sq km) of it is water, giving it the second smallest by total area among Nebraska's county.

It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 20174, The racial makeup of the county was 18176 White, 406 Black or African American, 561 American Indian, 733 Asian, 15 Native Hawaiian, and 283 from two or more races.
