Dakota City City is a city located in the Dakota County, Nebraska, United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 1821 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 1872, making it Nebraska's 64th largest. Its area is just over 1.17 square miles (3.03 sq km), of which, 1.05 square miles (2.72 sq km) of it is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 72nd largest by total area in Nebraska. It is ranks 11 in the size of its inland waterways in Nebraska.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1821 people, 596 households, and 448 families living in the city. The population density was 1728.7 people per square mile (667.45/kmē), it is Nebraska's 96th most densely populated city. There were 627 housing units at an average density of 597.1 per square mile (230.54/kmē). The average household size was 2.99 persons, and the average family size was 3.38 persons. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 31.1% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 7.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 104.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.8 males.
