Custer County is a county located in Nebraska, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 11793 inhabitants. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 10842, making it the 23rd most populous county in Nebraska. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2576.08 square miles (6672.02 kmē), of which, 2575.71 square miles (6671.06 kmē) of it is land and 0.37 square miles (0.96 kmē) of it is water, makes it the second largest by total area in Nebraska.

The population density was 4.6 people per square mile (1.78/kmē), it is Nebraska's 28th least densely populated county. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 26.3% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 23.5% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 10842, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 10670 White, 9 Black or African American, 63 American Indian, 23 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 77 from two or more races.
