Custer County is a United States county located in the United States of Idaho. The population of the county was 4342 as per the 2000 census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 4254, It is the seventh smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Idaho. It is spread over 4936.79 sq mi (12786.23 square kilometre), of which, 4925.45 square miles (12756.86 square kilometre ) of it is land and 11.34 square miles (29.37 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the third largest by size in Idaho.

The population density was 0.9 people per square mile (0.35/kmē), it is the third least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Idaho. There were 2983 housing units at an average density of 0.6 per square mile (0.23/kmē). The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.96. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 25.5% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 29.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 104.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.8 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 4254, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 4181 White, 0 Black or African American, 32 American Indian, 1 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 39 from two or more races.
