Currituck County is a county in the United States of North Carolina. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 18190 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 24183, It is 26th least populous county in North Carolina. It is spread over 525.65 mi˛ (1361.43 square kilometre), of which, 261.7 square miles (677.8 square kilometre ) of it is land and 263.95 square miles (683.63 square kilometre) of it is water, making it the 43rd largest by size in North Carolina. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in North Carolina.

As of the census of 2000, there were 18190 people, 6902 households, and 5203 families residing in the county. The population density was 69.5 people per square mile (26.83/km˛), making its North Carolina's 33rd least densely populated county. There were 10687 housing units at an average density of 40.8 per square mile (15.75/km˛). The average household size was 2.61 people, and the average family size was 2.98 people. In the county Population was distributed with 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 12% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.5 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 24183, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 90.46% White, 7.49% Black or African American, 0.38% American Indian, 0.51% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.13% from two or more races.
