Cumberland County, New Jersey is a county of the United States of New Jersey. Cumberland County had an official population of 146438 in 2000. The July 2008 population estimate is 156830, It is the sixth smallest in terms of population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 676.59 sq mi (1752.36 sq km), of which, 489.3 square miles (1267.28 sq km) of it is land and 187.29 square miles (485.08 sq km) of it is water, it is the third largest by area in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in New Jersey.

The population density was 299.3 people per square mile (115.56/kmē), it is fifth least densely populated county in New Jersey. There were 52863 housing units at an average density of 108 per square mile (41.7/kmē). The average household size was 2.73 and the average family size was 3.19. In the county the population was spread out, with 25.4% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 104.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.5 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 156830, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 73.81% White, 21.89% Black or African American, 1.06% American Indian, 1.22% Asian, 0.11% Native Hawaiian, and 1.91% from two or more races.
